Geez, Twilight! I expected better from you.

But seriously though. Why didn't Twilight Sparkle and her friends bother to take the Elements of Harmony with them during the trip to the Crystal Empire? Twilight was tasked to prevent the empire from falling into the hands of evil, which would imply that King Sombra would make his return. And I know that this quest was designed to be a test for Twilight, but she wasn't restricted to take the Elements of Harmony with her on yet ANOTHER DANGEROUS QUEST.

Artist's Note:

I could have just excluded the background scenes in Panels 4 through 7, but I thought they were important to show what was Twilight thinking of during that moment of silence. The motion lines also play a key role if through her mind's eye was zooming in on where the Elements of Harmony are held at.

I wonder if they'd work on him. Remember Luna wasn't evil just jealous. Discord was just a jerk but he never did anything (that we saw at least) that would kill anybody and he didn't even try to kill the mane six. Sombra was evil and that poor pony's reaction to him proved it. So there may be a chance that they wouldn't work or at least his shadow magic could counter it.
