My No. 3 Animated Villain: MEGABYTE

Series Appearance: Reboot (1994)
Voiced by: Tony Jay (voiced Frollo in Disney’s “Hunchback of Notre Dame”)
My Favorite Quotes:
- I’ve always wanted to do that. [Gives Enzo his guitar as a present]

-I see that my charade is at an end. A pity. We would have made a perfect couple.

-Ahh… the blushing bride. [Pulls Dot Matrix towards him] One final kiss. [Gives a disgustingly passionate kiss to Dot]

As I said before, what makes a great animated character is the voice actor behind the performance. Megabyte in the CGI animated series, Reboot, is one of my favorite villains because of not only on the late famous voice actor, Tony Jay, but because he has left quite an impact on the heroes of this series.

During the "Web Wars", where frightful Web creatures invaded Mainframe, the home of our heroes, Megabyte was able to exile the Guardian Bob into the mysterious Web where he will not return in a while as Megabyte began taking over Mainframe and converting it into "Megaframe." However, once Bob and a grown-up Enzo, know going by as "Matrix", returned to their home, they were able to stop Megabyte and sent him into the Web.

To his surprise, thanks to gaining some of Bob's powers as well as spending some time in the Web, he became a more powerful virus than ever before. To complete his revenge, the first thing Megabyte did was disguising himself as Bob so as to make the Original Bob look like a copy and to trick Dot, the heroine & Bob's love interest of the series, into marrying him. This almost worked if the Original Bob didn't return to stop the wedding. When Bob ask Megabyte why he would do this, the masterful manipulator simply replied, "It amused me." Thanks to Megabyte's new form, he can disguise whoever he wants with any form & any personality the originals' have.

After the wedding crash, Megabyte was able to infiltrate the Main Core of Mainframe, which he then proceeded to begin "the hunt." Unfortunately, this left one of the biggest cliffhangers in all animated series as the next season was never renewed. There was talk about a comic book series to finished up, but no development has been made.

I hate what Reboot The Guardian Code did to him.

First of all, that "Upgrade" scene in The Guardian Code made him look slightly less menacing with those weird new larger eyebrows and less mean-looking face, and ironically didn't really seem to improve him that much given how much less of a threat he seemed in this new series, with several of the new heroes being able to still beat him up when before, he was able to survive things like getting stomped on by a giant mech without any damage to him at all.

Second of all, that part was mostly just the show's excuse to demote him to the secondary threat, since the upgrade came with a means of allowing the new villain, Sourcerer, to torture Megabyte at will into serving him. Essentially more or less making him like Zavok from Sonic Lost World then.

Third, he wasn't nearly as much of a big deal in The Guardian Code as he was in the original series (right down to a scene in The Guardian Code of Hexadecimal mocking him for being reduced to a mere henchman to a human).

Overall, Original Megabyte > Guardian Code Megabyte.
